Book: 8 Simple Secrets To Raising Entrepreneurs

I basically invest my time and money on books. Novels, self-help, financial and parenting are my kind of selections. Books are my best friends.  They are most helpful whenever I need a little push to sleep. One of my best possessions is the GoNegosyo: 8 Simple Secrets to Raising Entrepreneurs. I got it as a birthday gift from Dear Hubby. He really knows me. I would rather get food or a book as a gift.

This 168-paged book was authored by Ms. Mary Joy Canon-Abaquin. She is the administrator of the Multiple Intelligence International School. I like how Ms. Joy describes herself as a "parentpreneur" - a parent, educator and entrepreneur. She made this book to tie up with GoNegosyo's advocacy to teach kids about money, business and life. The book will never bore you but rather it will have you hooked from start to finish. The lay-out is fun to look at that even the youngsters will love it. It highlights the essential messages chapter by chapter. It also gives realistic samples or suggestions on how to practice the ideas. This book is not just an ordinary help book that will instruct you to do step 1, step 2..and so on. It encourages parents more to hone the best potentials of their children.
The Secrets

Secret 1: Knowing Thyself - The book discusses the 8 intelligences - Word Smart, Number Smart, Picture Smart, Nature Smart, Music Smart, Body Smart, People Smart and Self Smart. Actually, I knew of these intelligences through milk ads. However, I am able to understand each one of them with the help of this book. All kids are unique and smart. Some are best at 1 intelligence and somehow not showing manifestations of the others. Parents should not be disheartened by this but rather be most supportive. Do not use the intelligences to box children.

Secret 2: Attitude - Success is a matter of attitude: positive thinking, positive action and positive persistence.

Secret 3: Entrepreneurial mind - Don't simply tell our kids to study hard to find  stable jobs. Let them have the mindset that when they finished schooling, they have the urge to help others by finding/developing concepts/products that eases the way of living , generate jobs and boosts our economy.

Secret 4: Money Smarts - To teach kids how to spend money wisely, save it and invest it.
Secret 5: Mentorship - Find pros to mentor our kids, learning from their experiences and mistakes.

Secret 6: Work Ethics - A good character is a foundation of every success.

Secret 7: Starting a business - There is a truth when the author says that the entrepreneurial mind is for all, but starting a business is not. She advises that money should not be the only reason for starting a business. Be ready to eye opportunities and use the smarts.

Secret 8: Making a difference - Building a business empire should not only be about accumulating wealth but rather making a difference in the lives of others.

We all want the best for our children. We want to see them to be successful in their chosen paths. All they need is more love, support, guidance and encouragement from us.

God bless everyone!
